change

this afternoon i changed the registration sticker on my license plate. next monday i'll visit the dentist and change to a new color toothbrush. i change my clothes, change my beard, change the sheets in my bed...

many changes are hardly changes. really they're just following within a routine. so in three or four weeks fall classes start again. with the exception of one year, i've been doing this for the last 17 years. why should this one be any different?

there's something about the unknown on the other side of college gradution that makes me confront the vulnerabilty of the "real world." as much as i would like to say that i've tried to put myself into the real world through out my education, there are still many things to learn. moving beyond the academic calendar and world means clarifying identity: who will i be, what will i stand for, how will i live, who will i live with and/or among? the university gives people a comfortable place to think, but without the pressure of finding conclusions in some fields. some questions remain questions, other points it is necessary to qualify where i stand...

i stand for Jesus! i stand in thankfulness (even when my feet are sore, like right now) for the abundent new life of Love! i stand for listening and learning from one another, and sharing of stories and experiences. i stand for right relationships, and God's shalom community! i stand for family and friends, to faithfully be with those we love throughout life's journeys. i want to stand with the hurting and speak to and pray for those who are hurting them, whether they are aware of it or not.

through any change, we walk in Love...
